7 Gut Boosting Trends We Love!

Gut health has been the talk of the town lately. From being able to improve our appearance to reducing our brain fog and bloat, the gut microbiome has been researched heavily in the last few years. It’s recently come to the forefront even on social media with hashtag trends like #guttok and #guttalk. And we are LOVING IT! So we thought we would compile a list of our favorite gut-boosting trends!7 Gut-Boosting Trends We Love

1. Probiotic-Rich Everything

Probiotics are one of the more controversial gut health products. Probiotics are often recommended by doctors to support the microdiversity within the gut. This is especially true when you are taking antibiotics or other medication that can disrupt the balance of your microbiome.

Probiotics can be controversial for 4 main reasons.

  1. Immunocompromised people are at a higher risk for infections when they take probiotics.
  2. The strains of bacteria used may not be the ones that you need in your body.
  3. Depending on the delivery method, many probiotics never make it to your colon (where you gut microbiome lives and where you want them to end up) because they get digested in the stomach before they can reach their intended destination.
  4. They may make SIBO symptoms worse.

If your doctor has cleared you to have probiotics then there are a few ways you can do that safely. You can either eat them in foods like Kombucha, yogurt, kimchi, or sauerkraut.

Or you can take a supplement containing them. Spore-based probiotics will be the best type of probiotic supplement to take because they remain intact until they reach your colon and are only used by the gut bacteria if needed. If they aren’t needed they are stored until they are needed or passed on through the digestive system.

AtrantilPro is a great spore-based probiotic option that also contains the microbiome-nourishing ingredients that Atrantil has.

2. IBS-Friendly Foods

You’ve likely seen foods in stores touting that they are friendly for different diets, including paleo, keto, and gluten-free. Well, now there are IBS-friendly foods in the stores too! Some foods are stamped “low-FODMAP” making it easier for people to adhere to the low-FODMAP diet while they need to.

3. Collagen Supplements

Collagen is known as a beauty-boosting supplement. It can give us a more youthful appearance and help our joints stay healthy. But collagen is great for helping protect gut health, too!

Collagen helps to digest carbohydrates and proteins. It can also help to repair the lining of the intestinal tract which is important for those who experience a leaky gut. This not only helps the gut, but it also helps to reduce systemic inflammation which has been shown to help with disease onset and progression.

While ingesting collagen through foods is an option (like bone broth), the amount of collagen inside the food is not known. Collagen is one of the few areas where we suggest taking it in supplement form to ensure you are getting the right amount to support your body in the way you need. There are multiple types of collagen, too, so getting the supplement lets you know what type of collage you are ingesting.

4. Prebiotic Foods

Prebiotic foods are one of the best things to incorporate into your diet. Prebiotics are the food that our gut microbes love the most. They allow the gut microbes to replicate and create more diversity of microbes within the gut. This promotes health and fights off disease.

Prebiotic foods also allow the gut microbes to release helpful chemicals that repair damage to our cells and make our organs perform better.

Atrantil is a great source of prebiotics.

5. Plant-Based Foods as Gut Healthy Medicine

Plant-based foods are a great idea for your gut. Plant-based foods contain polyphenols, prebiotics, postbiotics, fiber, and other important nutrients to support your health. Plant-based foods help the body to repair itself and keep digestion on a healthy schedule.

However, those who stick to vegan or vegetarian diets should be careful. There are some dangerous trends on social media right now where people are only eating fruits and/or vegetables and are becoming malnourished. So if you are on one of these diets, talk with your doctor about ensuring you are taking proper amounts of essential nutrients. Malnutrition can result in disease, bone breakdown, or even death.

But, when plant-based foods are incorporated into a healthy, well-rounded diet they are an awesome health-promoting tool.

6. Postbiotics

Postbiotics are a metabolic byproduct when gut microbes break down certain types of food. Polyphenols, prebiotics, and fibers are the best sources to get postbiotics from.

If you’ve heard of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) like butyrate or propionate, you know how powerful these postbiotics can be.  Proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, and other metabolites are postbiotics that help our bodies to repair and maintain proper health.

Postbiotics have been found to help support health in numerous ways including:

  • Improved autophagy
  • Inhibition of pathogen growth
  • Anti-inflammation
  • Anti-cancer
  • Fighting obesity

Postbiotics can be derived from polyphenols and prebiotics. This means that Atrantil is a great source of polyphenols, prebiotics, and postbiotics!

7. Polyphenols

Polyphenols are a great source of health-boosting byproducts. Polyphenols and antioxidants help our bodies to maintain optimal function. Polyphenols are what give plant-based foods their superpowers. The wide range of colors are from the polyphenolic content within the produce.

Our bodies use them to remove free radicals, toxins, and other unhealthy chemicals that if left there would damage our organs and body systems. They also help to support cellular health by removing dead or damaged cells and feeding the healthy ones so they remain healthy.

Polyphenols help our bodies in so many ways which is why we are proud to say that Atrantil has some of the most potent polyphenols that we could find. The three of them work synergistically to promote gut balance, bodily health, and keep us regular.

If you’re ready to get more polyphenols, prebiotics, postbiotics, and probiotics try Atrantil or AtrantilPro today! (As always ask  your doctor before adding any new supplement to your routine to make sure it is safe for your individual needs.)
