Jicama Fries
Jicama is a root veggie that is lower in carbs and high in fiber which makes it a great alternative to the normal carb-loaded potato french fries. It does require a little more prep work, namely, some precooking is required so the outside doesn’t burn while the inside is still cooking. This is easily achieved by steaming the fries before baking.
You can fry this but for a healthier version, we recommend baking it in the oven or using the air fryer. Remember to spring for organic and these tasty fries will be everything you dreamed of! (The kids can’t tell the difference either.)
Ingredients
- 1 medium organic jicama, peeled and thick match-sticked
- ½ cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon organic garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon organic onion powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Steam or boil jicama fries for about 6-8 minutes. Not so much that it falls apart but just softened slightly.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Toss jicama fries in olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder if using, onion powder if using, paprika powder if using.
- Air fry for about 8 minutes, or until the outside is golden and crispy, or bake for about 20-25 minutes, also until outside is golden and crispy.
