Atrantil: Getting to the Root Cause of Your SIBO and IBS

Getting To The Root Cause of Your SIBO and IBS

Over 60-70 million suffer from some sort of digestive disease. These people may experience abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, and/or constipation. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are two of the most common digestive diseases people have to deal with. Surprisingly with the prevalence of SIBO and IBS doctors are still having trouble successfully treating their patients. Until Atrantil there has not been a natural supplement to help patients suffering with their SIBO and IBS symptoms. With its botanical ingredients, Atrantil has been able to naturally relieve patients of their abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.

What’s the Current Treatment for SIBO/IBS and Why it isn’t Working?

Xifaxan is the first line of medications given to patients for SIBO/IBS. Their FDA trials concluded only 41% of IBS-D patients found relief after using Xifaxan. This drug was approved for IBS-D patients, but doctors are using Xifaxan in hopes it will help with SIBO symptoms as well. There is almost a 60% recurrence rate with these patients after taking Xifaxan. Unfortunately, their same symptoms come back causing them to spend more money on these expensive drugs and more time in distress. Other common medications focus on the colon – not the small bowel – causing the patients to still feel very bloated and distended afterward, include:

  • Lubiprostone (Amitiza)
  • Linaclotide (Linzess)
  • Plecanatide (Trulance)

The reason why it’s so hard to treat SIBO patients is due to the location of methane production which happens to be intraluminal – inside the intestine lining. So when taking these medications they aren’t getting to the source producing the methane gas – the archaebacteria. These archaebacteria are interesting little organisms known as methanogens. They’re actually in their own kingdom of microorganisms, because they don’t have a cell nucleus or other membrane-bound thing like other bacteria. And since Xifaxan is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections, it doesn’t affect these archaebacteria – which is not a TRUE bacteria. Meaning, these treatments do not address the root cause of your issues, it’s like putting a Band-Aid on your symptoms and calling it healed.

Causes of Your IBS or SIBO Symptoms

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth or SIBO is just as its name describes – too much bacteria in the small intestine. And depending on the type of bacteria that is overgrown, it can produce hydrogen or methane (aka hydrogen-predominant SIBO or methane-predominant SIBO). These present with different symptoms and need different treatments. There are 3 types of IBS as well – constipation dominant, diarrhea dominant or mixed (alternating diarrhea and constipation). Constipation symptoms come from the methane production of the archaebacteria while diarrhea occurs with hydrogen sulfide production. So, when doctors are trying to treat IBS with medications that are focused on just one symptom or another you can be sure these medications aren’t eliminating the actual cause. Doctors will label their patients with IBS or SIBO and call it a wrap for that patient. They’ll give them a medication to treat their symptoms and send them on their way. But every patient is different with how they present with their symptoms, how they react to certain treatments, and what their underlying issues are. These syndromes are not a “one size fits all” disease. It’s a multifaceted disease. And it’s important to treat what is causing these symptoms. Whether it’s due to disruptive gut microbiome from an infection, antibiotics, a stressful event or increased intestinal permeability – leaky gut – there is a low-grade inflammation going on in your body. Your gut microbiome is in shambles, and bacteria are now able to grow in an area where they should not be.

How Does Atrantil Heal Your Gut?

Atrantil’s natural ingredients work together to eliminate the source of these gas-producing microorganisms. They work in the small intestine and stay intraluminal, where the problem begins. So let’s talk a little about Atrantil’s ingredients:

  • M. balsamea willd (peppermint leaf) – A small amount of peppermint leaf is included in Atrantil because it contains soothing polyphenols. These polyphenols help calm the area and allow for the other two ingredients to come in and finish the job.
  • Quebracho Colorado (red quebracho) – This flavonoid ingredient is also a polyphenol, which soaks up hydrogen in the intestines, so there is less hydrogen to be made into methane.

Quebracho Colorado is from a hardwood tree which has a natural defense against fungus and archaeal species. It’s able to weaken and penetrate the wall of the archaebacteria.

  • Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum or conker tree) – Once the cell wall of the archaebacteria is compromised, it allows for the horse chestnut to penetrate the wall and shut down the archaebacteria’s fuel source.

Horse chestnut is a potent source of flavonoids and saponins, which is where it gets its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  The saponins also function as a bactericidal, killing off harmful, hydrogen producing bacteria in the small intestine. Remember hydrogen is what the archaebacteria use as their fuel source, so this results in killing off these microorganisms by starving them. With these three ingredients working together, they fight off the overgrowth of bacteria in your gut small intestine, getting the bacteria to go back into the colon where they belong.

Atrantil’s Story

How did we come up with these three ingredients? Well, when we were doing research we came to the conclusion that eliminating methane production was the answer – this was how we were going to help our patients who suffer from these chronic symptoms.   We also found that ruminants/cattle also produce an overabundance of methane and there were natural ways in which to treat them.  Thus, the key for us was to take ruminant science/medicine/physiology and translate that to humans. That’s how it ultimately all started with Atrantil – after years of research we concluded putting these three ingredients together would be the best combination on how to decrease methane in our patients’ gut. Once we found the correct combination of botanical ingredients it was time to put Atrantil to the test:

  1. Randomized trial – In September 2015 this trial was published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The results were outstanding – 91% of patients reported relief of bloating and 77% had improved constipation.
  2. Retrospective study – We took 26 people who failed every other treatment available under the sun – at least four prescription therapies. These results, published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics, concluded our patients had an 88% quality of life improvement.

This study showed bloating had a fivefold improvement, pain and constipation had a threefold improvement. The results of these tests proved Atrantil worked by helping so many patients who had no hope, hopping from doctor to doctor and treatment to treatment with no improvement!

What to Expect From Atrantil

Remember, different patients have different symptoms which call for different treatments – this is not a one size fits all disease. For those struggling with bloating and abdominal comfort, with/without diarrhea, constipation or both hit this bacteria with full force:

  • If you have frequent symptoms, take 2 capsules, 3 times a day with food until you start feeling better
  • Clinically, patients may see results in as little as a few days, but it may take up to 30 days to see complete relief
  • If you have occasional symptoms, take 2 capsules with known trigger foods as needed
  • Some patients like to continue Atrantil as a potent daily supplement for overall digestive support and protection or as a maintenance dosing once symptoms have resolved

There is no “this is the way and the only way to treat gut issues” type of treatment. Everyone is different. With the help of tailoring your Atrantil dose or maybe changing up your diet and adding different supplements alongside Atrantil, you can truly start to see results. You need to find out what helps your body specifically. Atrantil is focused on getting to the root cause of your digestive issues. If your struggling with bloating, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea and/or constipation try Atrantil.
