The Benefits of Good Nutrition

Someone holding a salad and jump-rope on the table showing the Benefits of Good NutritionYou might think that the answer to “what are the benefits of good nutrition” is pretty obvious. It means that you’re healthy.

This is extremely true. However, there is actually a lot more to it than just that. Some of the benefits on this list may be common knowledge, but sometimes this information needs to be reiterated and proven for it to really take hold.

These are some of the top benefits that we find with good nutrition.

1. Weight Loss

We know this one is pretty obvious. It might not be obvious in the way you think, though.

Sure eating healthier and making better food choices is a good path to a smaller waistline.

But did you know that you don’t actually have to restrict what foods you eat to attain that goal?

It’s been proven through studies that just by focusing on increasing your dietary fiber and lean protein intake, you can lose some pounds.

That happens without having to avoid any food groups or favorite snacks. (You’re welcome.)

2. Better Moods

You always feel good after a comfort meal. Those foods that you’ve associated with great memories from your childhood. The foods that take you right back to simpler times.

Then there are foods that you eat when you’re stressed out. You think they make you feel better, but they might actually be doing the opposite.

Here’s the problem with reaching for a tub of ice cream or a sleeve of cookies when you’re frustrated. When your body is running on unhealthy foods that are riddled with high quantities of trans fat, sugar, sodium, and preservatives, it starts craving those foods

Those foods don’t allow your body to create the feel-good hormones in your gut and lead to a terrible cycle of bad food decisions and bad moods

3. Improved Behavior for Teens

Yes, you read that right. Eating a proper diet can actually help your teen to have better behavior. This isn’t to say that a bad diet leads to serial killers and shoplifters. But, a recent study did find that when teens ate a healthier diet (more added nutrients) they committed fewer offenses by 26.3% than the placebo group. In addition to this, if they continued using the nutrient-rich supplements for at least 2 weeks, violent crimes were reduced by 37%

It is believed that the more nutritious diet improves gut health and thus has positive effects on brain chemistry via the gut-brain axis. Healthier foods produce more beneficial byproducts than chemical-ridden foods do, which allows your body to perform better.

4. May Help to Improve/Reduce Certain Forms of Cancer

There is a strong link between obesity and cancer. Bad nutrition leads to obesity. So it’s understandable that a healthy diet can help to reduce the chances of cancer by keeping your body healthy.

Obesity has also been proven to lead to a worse prognosis with cancer patients across the board.

Although we’d like to claim that eating healthy will get rid of and avoid all forms of cancer, we can’t. There is some promise though with certain forms of cancer having a better prognosis with healthier food choices.

One study found that increasing fruit, vegetable, and/or fiber intake can help with the following forms of cancer:

  • Upper GI

  • Colorectal

  • Liver

  • Lung

  • Breast (potentially)

This study also found that increased fruit, veggie, and/or fiber intake did not have statistically significant effects on the following cancer forms:

  • Stomach

  • Biliary tract

  • Pancreatic

  • Cervix

  • Endometrial

  • Prostate

  • Kidney

  • Bladder

  • Lymphoma

Although they haven’t been proven by this study to prevent or improve prognostics, eating healthier can’t hurt you either. Making better food choices may help improve treatment capabilities and side effects.

5. Improved Heart Health

Eating a more balanced diet has been proven to improve heart health. Diets that are high in trans fats have been linked to coronary heart disease, sudden death related to cardiac issues, and diabetes

Reducing the intake of these unhealthy fats and increasing healthy fats, fiber, and other nutrients can help to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol leading to a much healthier heart.

Easy Tips to Improve Your Nutrition

So there are all these benefits to improving your nutrition, but how exactly do you go about doing it? If it was that easy, wouldn’t you have already been doing it?

Here are some tips that can help you to start and continue making healthier and more nutritious food decisions.

Eat at home with your family. Having your meals at home has been proven to help you make better decisions and have a wider variety of healthy foods.

Start exercising. Mild exercise can help to improve your microbiome and make you actually want to make healthier food decisions. Exercise can work hand in hand with good food choices to help improve your mood

Track what you eat. We don’t mean you should count your calories. If you use an app that sets dietary goals for you it will show you how close you are to that goal. This can really put into perspective what your typical diet consists of and shows you where you can improve. When you compare your normal choices versus what you’re supposed to be eating it can be a very eye-opening experience. You may think you’re eating a completely healthy diet when in reality you’re missing the mark on major food groups.

Consult your doctor about taking a multivitamin. Multivitamins have been shown to help you achieve the nutritional goals that our modern lives tend to prevent us from reaching. Studies have proven multivitamins to be beneficial, especially for older populations

Consult your doctor about incorporating Atrantil into your routine. Atrantil is an all-natural blend using plant-derived polyphenols to help improve your digestive health. Healing your digestive tract helps to heal the rest of your body and allows your healthy food choices to be even more beneficial.

It sounds easy to eat healthily, but we make it harder than it has to be. Once we take a look at what we are putting into our bodies and making more conscious decisions we can lead a path to a much healthier and better life.
